COVENTRY have signed back row forward Freddie Tuilagi Junior on a dual registration agreement with Leicester Tigers.

The 19-year-old, whose Samoan international father Freddie made 76 appearances at centre for Leicester between 2000 and 2004, trained with Cov last week and is at Butts Park on a season-long deal.

“Leicester want him to get some competitive game time from this season and we’re excited by what we’ve seen of him so far,” said Cov’s director of rugby Rowland Winter. “He will still be available to them for A League and possibly LV= Cup games if required.

“He comes from not only a proud rugby family but also a strong and powerful rugby club, which is just as important to us.

“He’s a big, strong back row who started at their Academy as a front rower, and he adds to the competition in our squad.”
