Job Role: Academy Lead Athletic Development Coach

    Salary: Dependent upon experience

Location: Coventry and the wider Midlands Region

Contract Type: Fixed Term (Full time)

Coventry Rugby has recently launched its development academy to support the young players in Coventry, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. This is an exciting development in the club’s history as we look to develop a sustainable future for the first team at Coventry Rugby with home grown talent.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take the lead on the athletic development of the junior and senior academy players. We are looking for a developing coach that is enthusiastic about working with youth athletes.

The role will involve coaching academy players within the Coventry Rugby geographical area. The successful applicant will coach athletes on a regular basis and will deliver all aspects of athletic development and strength and conditioning. The role will also involve creating working relationships with local institutions, schools and clubs and representing Coventry Rugby in the wider area. Developing good relationships with all those involved in the player development process will be very important.

Additional responsibilities will involve supporting the senior squad athletic development programme when required.

The successful applicant will have a minimum of the following:

    • BSc in sport and exercise science or equivalent
    • Some previous experience of coaching elite level junior athletes
    • A good understanding of the main components of athletic development that are appropriate to the developing athlete
    • An understanding of common paediatric injuries and conditions
    • A high level of motivation for coaching age group players
    • Good communication skills and a willingness to listen and learn
    • Full clean driving licence

The role is ideally suited to a developing coach who has recently graduated with a relevant degree and with some experience of coaching junior athletes. The nature of the role with youth athletes will mean working some evenings and bank holidays and supporting training sessions and match days on weekends.
