Coventry Rugby can confirm that Will Rigg has left the club with immediate effect to join Premiership side, Exeter Chiefs.

Having joined us back in the summer of 2022, Rigg’s eye catching performances earned him many accolades including multiple Player of the Month awards, a place in the Championship Team of the Year and now an opportunity to take on top-tier rugby.

Rigg’s stay at Butts Park Arena may have only been a relatively brief one, but his contribution has been great over his 37 appearances in Blue and White. The magnitude of the centre’s role in the club’s recent success is certainly not lost on Coventry Head Coach, Alex Rae:

“It’s mixed emotions having to talk about this, on one hand I’m extremely happy and excited for Will having an opportunity in the Premiership and I can’t wait to see him on that stage. Then on the other hand it’s really sad to lose a brilliant person who’s been a big part of the team here at Coventry.

It shows what a brilliant rugby programme we have here at the club and if people are willing to work hard and grow on and off the field, we can give them a platform to push on and realise their dreams.”

As Rigg heads down south to prepare for Premiership level rugby, he feels he has been in the best possible spot to develop his game in order to make the transition to the topflight.

“Everyone who plays in the Championship and is associated with Coventry Rugby knows how good the league is and how good the club is in preparing people to take that next step.

I don’t think there’s a better place than Coventry for young players to make their mark in the game and take that step up to the Premiership.”

Will Rigg’s final message to the Butts Park faithful:

“Just thank you really, thank you for all your support for both me and the team. It’s been an amazing place to play rugby every week, so thank you for everything. You’ll be sorely missed.”

Everyone at Coventry Rugby would like to wish Will all the very best as he takes on this fresh challenge.

Thanks for the memories, Will!
