Here we are almost at the beginning of the newly named  Champ season, but before then to whet appetites, three pre season warm up matches.

To stress again so that there is no confusion, such pre season matches DO NOT count in any club or individual players records.

In doing so , let us welcome for the first time ever as our visitors RGC 14

( Rygbi Gogledd Cymru 1404).

Founded in 2008, they are the regional representative team for the North Wales Rugby Development Region, based at Colwyn Bay, Conwy.

RGC play their league rugby in Super Rygbi Cymru, alongside the likes of Cardiff RFC,  Newport , Ebbw Vale & Pontypool, to name just a few. Last season saw them finish in 8thplace.

Looking back just a little, RGC had three seasons in the Welsh Championship, before gaining promotion to the Premier Division in 2015/16. They have also won in their time the WRU Challenge Cup.

Home ground is the Eirias Stadium.

Both the Director of Rugby & Captain are long serving.

D of R Josh Leach previously held the post of Performance Manager, having previously also played 108 times for the Club.

Captain is Afon Bagshaw, who has represented RGC since playing for the Under 12’s.

Amongst the squad, the best know name to Cov Rugby followers is fly half Billy Mc Bride, son of Robin ,who himself gained 37 caps for Wales at hooker. Billy most recently played against Cov during his spell at Doncaster Knights.

RGC 1404 began their build up to this season’s league rugby with a 50 points – 19 win last Saturday at home over Chester.

It should all add up to an interesting opener, with home games to come v Caldy & then Premiership Exeter Chiefs.
