For the second of our three match pre season warm up matches, the newly named Champ rivals Caldy are the visitors to the Butts Park Arena.
To stress the point once again, pre season games DO NOT count in any club or individual player records.
This is the second season in succession that the Caldy club have come calling ahead of league commitments.
Whatever the final outcome, neither club will surely read too much into it. At the equivalent point twelve months ago, Cov put 30 points plus on their Wirral visitors, only to then find them proving to be a totally different proposition when it came to the two league encounters.
Following this weekend’s meeting, Caldy go on to play Durham University in the middle of next week, before hosting another Champ rival Chinnor at Paton Field next weekend.
All that ahead of hosting both of their home opening league fixtures v London Scottish & newly promoted Richmond.
Nicknamed ‘’ the Ravers’’, Caldy have been reported as recruiting boldly during the close season. With no departures advertised, the key addition to the squad would seem to be the former Newcastle Falcons fly half & playmaker Kieran Wilkinson. Amongst others, Dan Owen has arrived from our visitors of two weeks ago RGC, adding leadership qualities to the Caldy forward pack.
From a Coventry perspective, the win over RGC two weeks ago proved a very good workout, allowing Alex Rae & his coaching colleagues plenty of opportunities to witness & watch many of our new faces, alongside many of those retained all in a match situation.
This weekend will see Caldy keen to get in on the action, before next Saturday, Rob Baxter’s Premiership Exeter Chiefs provide the opposition again here at the BPA. For those of you who take the ‘’ Rugby Paper’’, please do not be put off by the fact they have persisted in promoting the match as being away at Sandy Park. Not true & we certainly have attempted to get that fact changed without success !
Enjoy this latest offering at the BPA & come on Cov Rugby, let’s get those voices back on song before the really serious business begins in earnest at Worcester Warriors.
