Coventry Rugby begins their Champ Rugby season with an absorbing away day to Worcester Warriors at Sixways Stadium. After a productive preseason, Head Coach Alex Rae had plenty of selection decisions to make.
At hooker is Jordon Poole’s trusty arm, as he captains the side for the season opener. He will be alongside Toby Trinder at loosehead and Matt Johnson at tighthead, forming a front row full of power and experience. Behind them, Jack shine and Senitiki Nayalo provide the engine room in the second row, combining youthful energy with massive carrying strength. The back row of Dan Green, Tom Ball and Morgan Strong, will certainly be looking to impose themselves at the breakdown and gain front-foot momentum for the team.
In the backs it’s an exciting fresh look to our half-back pairing as new signings, Sam Maunder and Josh Thomas take to the field. Both didn’t take long to assimilate to Cov in preseason, they’ll be looking to continue this form into the new season. The midfield sees Morgan Adderly-Jones partnering Oli Morris in a strong centre pairing, blending creativity with defensive steel. Out wide, the pacemakers Peter Sullivan and David Opoku-Fordjour will be looking to convert territory into points. Whilst Tom Bacon provides security and counter attacking threat from full-back.
As ever, the finishers will be looking to change the game when they are called upon. Suva Ma’asi, Aristot Benz-Salomon and Eliot Salt bring firepower to the front row with Alan Ferrie and Mackenzie Graham completing the forwards options. In the backs, Rae will have experience and versatility to call upon with Josh Barton, Tommy Mathews and Ewan Baker all primed for action.
