Coventry Rugby is delighted to announce the signing of winger, Ryan Hutler ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 campaign. Hutler will join Coventry from the newly crowned Championship winners, Jersey Reds.

The 25-year-old speedster started his rugby journey playing for his school side, before graduating from the Bedford Blues senior academy to the first team, where he really began to solidify his reputation as one of the Championship’s deadliest finishers.

With a devastating mix of pace and power, Ryan’s talent and eye for the try line most certainly did not go unnoticed whilst at the Blues, as the winger was picked up by Championship rivals, Jersey Reds. The hop across the channel proved to result in a somewhat frustrating period in Hutler’s career, as the winger was forced to recover from injuries that prevented maximum game time. Ironically, Hutler injured himself back in the pre-season of 2021 when playing against Coventry at Butts Park Arena in what was a try-scoring display.

Having previously worked with Alex Rae back in his Bedford days, Hutler spoke of his excitement on the upcoming reunion and a fresh start in the midlands: “I’m delighted that Alex got in contact in regard to an opportunity at Coventry, and I’m really excited to be able to contribute to the journey that the club wants to go on.”

Head Coach, Alex Rae knows exactly what he’s getting with Hutler, and believes that he and his coaching staff can get the very best out of the winger: “Ryan has had some tough luck with injuries while he’s been at Jersey, before that he was the league’s top scorer at Bedford and one of the best finishers around. He’s hungry now to play week-in, week-out and score more tries. We’re really excited to have him on board.”

Everyone at Coventry Rugby is looking forward to welcoming Ryan to the BPA come the start of pre-season, and seeing what he can achieve in Blue and White.
