TIME ran out for Coventry’s development side, who led Cambridge 2nds on four separate occasions only to be edged out 45-42 as the final whistle blew with them pressing for a winner on the opposition line.

Two tries on the approach to half-time saw Cambridge take a 31-14 lead into the break with their bigger set of forwards posing some initial problems, but Cov turned things round in an impressive second 40 only to come up just short.

“It was a topsy-turvy game,” said head of Development Academy, Matt Price. “Poor tackling allowed Cambridge in for some scores, but Coventry looked the fitter side and more dangerous with ball in hand.

“The referee called the game on a re-set five-metre scrum to us on the Cambridge line, our scrum had been dominant all game and I felt we would have pushed over for the win.”

Try scorers for Cov in the game, played at Broadstreet, were Mike Ryan, Tom Price, Ben Palmer, Brendan Burke, Waita Setu and Matt Price.
