Coventry Rugby can confirm that Defence Coach James Scaysbrook will be leaving the club at the end of the 2024/25 season to take up a new professional opportunity with Ireland Women as their defence coach.

Joining the club in 2020, Scaysbrook has been a core part of the coaching setup for the past five seasons. His influence has been instrumental in shaping Coventry’s defensive identity and has played a crucial role in the squad’s development during a period of continued progress in the Championship.

Beyond his technical and tactical contributions on the field, James has made a lasting impact on the squad through his mentorship and commitment to player development. His work has extended well beyond match day performance, helping players grow both as professionals and as people.

Head Coach Alex Rae shared his thoughts on James Scaysbrook’s departure from the club: “It’s always disappointing to lose really good people, and Scays is just that. The coaches, players, and I have really enjoyed working with him. His work ethic and commitment have been brilliant, and we’ll all really miss having him here. He goes with our best wishes, and we’re all excited to see how he progresses going forward.”

James Scaysbrook reflected on his 5 years at Coventry Rugby: “Thank you to everyone at Coventry Rugby for a great five years. I’ll be leaving the BPA with some great memories, and experiences that I will carry with me throughout my coaching career”

Coventry Rugby CEO Nick Johnston praised James Scaysbrook, reflecting on his impact at the club: “The club is deeply grateful to James for his dedication, professionalism, and the positive influence he has brought to Coventry Rugby. His efforts over the past five years have helped lay strong foundations for future success. I would like to thank him and his family for the dedication and the support that his wife and kids have given the club too, and whilst we are always sad to see good people leave the club, we are very proud to continue developing people and creating a platform for them to progress to the top of the game.”

Everyone at Coventry Rugby thanks James for his outstanding service and wishes him all the best in his next chapter.
