Coventry Rugby U18 Academy produced a gritty and composed performance to secure another home victory, overcoming a strong Lambs U18 side in an entertaining and competitive fixture at Butts Park Arena.

The Academy made the perfect start, striking early through Henry Longfellow. Sharp defensive pressure forced an error, and Longfellow reacted quickest to intercept and race clear for the opening try, giving Coventry immediate momentum. The Lambs responded quickly, however, capitalising on possession soon after to close the gap and underline the physical challenge facing the hosts.

Coventry regained control through their set piece, with a dominant maul providing the platform for Will Dorrell to power over from close range. The forwards continued to lay a strong foundation, and further reward followed when Henry Judge finished off an excellent turnover attack. Owen Hill’s awareness and offload out the back released quick support from the scrum-half, allowing Judge to cross following sharp support play.

The Lambs remained dangerous throughout and added another well-worked try after building pressure through multiple phases, leaving Coventry with a 19–10 lead at half-time.

The second half saw both sides continue to attack with intent. A standout moment came when Charlie Stallard broke the line, creating the opportunity for Jacob Lako to finish following a rapid breakdown and quick recycling of possession. The Lambs refused to fade, fighting back with two further tries to keep the contest alive and test Coventry’s resolve until the closing stages.

Despite the late pressure, the Academy showed real character in defence to close out the game and secure a deserved 29–22 victory. It was another determined and hard-working display from the U18s, highlighting their resilience and continued development.

The performance serves as another positive building block as the squad now turns its attention to this weekend’s Scottish tour, carrying momentum and confidence from another strong showing on home soil.
