A lively atmosphere greeted Coventry at the newly named Nick Newbold Stadium as the club marked the start of a new chapter, hosting Doncaster Knights on a day that felt well matched to the occasion. The energy in the stands carried onto the pitch, with both sides looking to build momentum. In a game full of attacking intent and physical edge, Coventry rose to it, their power and creativity ultimately proving too much for the visitors.

Tommy Mathews got the game underway in front of a rocking Nick Newbold Stadium crowd. Doncaster cleared their lines well, offering Coventry an early platform from midfield. A trio of penalties soon had the hosts knocking on the door, and it was the ever-reliable Senitiki Nayalo who crashed over from close range to open the scoring. 7–0.

The Knights responded at the set piece, winning the first scrum penalty and using territory to apply pressure. Coventry’s defence held firm initially, but repeated carries eventually told as Rhys Tait forced his way over to level things up.

Coventry hit back in style. Slick offloading, strong carries and relentless intent culminated in another powerful finish from the forwards, with Allan Ferrie surging over to restore the lead. 14–7.

Moments later, Api Bavadra lit up the contest with a stunning break from deep inside Coventry’s half, taking play all the way to the Doncaster line. Although the chance initially went begging, Coventry stayed on the front foot and Ferrie grabbed his second in quick succession to extend the advantage.

Despite a couple of handling errors halting momentum, Coventry finished the half strongly. A well-placed penalty to the corner led to a controlled attacking sequence, and Tom Ball powered over to secure the bonus point before the break. 24-5 at the halfway stage, an excellent start for Alex Rae’s men.

The second half began in a more measured fashion, with both sides struggling to find early rhythm. Doncaster struck first, executing a textbook driving maul from five metres out to close the gap.

Coventry’s response, however, was immediate. Josh Barton spotted space after a sharp offload and broke through, with the defence scrambling. The move was finished clinically in the corner by Matt Johnson. 29–12.

The Knights stayed in the fight, adding another maul try through Jasper McGuire. Yet, Coventry’s attacking quality continued to shine, widening the gap. A flowing move saw Morgan Adderly-Jones cross, before Api Bavadra got his reward soon after, finishing off a loose ball brilliantly gathered by Dafydd-Rhys Tiueti. 41–17.

A late yellow card for Dafydd-Rhys Tiueti allowed Doncaster to secure a bonus point try, but the result was beyond doubt. Tommy Mathews added a late penalty to round off the scoring at 44–24.

Coventry produced a commanding attacking display, blending forward power with real flair in the backs. While Doncaster showed resilience throughout, the hosts’ clinical edge and ability to strike quickly proved decisive. A strong all-round performance and another bonus-point. The lads looking forward to a trip down to London Scottish next week.
