Coventry Rugby is delighted to announce that its home Butts Park Arena will become known as the Nick Newbold Stadium from Saturday 21 March 2026.

Coventry Rugby’s multi-sports stadium will honour former club director and lifelong supporter Nick Newbold, whose work greatly supported the club, the city, and many charities across our community.

Nick Newbold worked with Coventry Rugby for 17 years and also served as Chair of Trustees at Sky Blues in the Community, Coventry City F.C.’s official charity. In addition, he was a member of the Acorns Coventry fundraising group in aid of Acorns Children’s Hospice, as well as supporting other community sports teams.

Born in Coventry and educated at King Henry VIII School, Nick’s dedication to both the club and the wider community was an inspiration to all. The Nick Newbold Stadium serves as a lasting tribute to his outstanding contribution – not only to the club, but to the city of Coventry and its community.

A naming ceremony for the Nick Newbold Stadium will take place on 21 March 2026 at Coventry Rugby’s Champ Rugby fixture against Doncaster Knights.

A special ticket package is available for those wishing to celebrate the occasion alongside Nick’s friends and family. The package includes ground entry, a hot and cold buffet, and 50% of the proceeds from the event will be donated to charity. Further information is available at www.coventryrugby.co.uk/other-events/

Coventry Rugby is immensely grateful for the dedication Nick Newbold showed in keeping the club at the heart of its community, and extends sincere thanks to his family and friends for their support in marking this new chapter in the history of Butts Park Arena as the Nick Newbold Stadium.

Jon Sharp, Chairman, said:

“I knew Nick – ‘Nobby’ – for well over 30 years, the last 16 or so being when he served on the board of this club so well. Fun, kind, caring, cheerful, mischievous, chaotic, dedicated, enthusiastic, brilliant! I am delighted for the club to honour him and his legacy in this way.”

The Family and Friends of Nick Newbold, said:

“The Newbold family are incredibly proud to have Nick’s name forever linked to the club and city he loved so much. We all miss him every day, but the stadium renaming ensures the ‘Nick Newbold’ legacy will live on, continuing to support the city he cared about so deeply, Brilliant!”
