JOB done and time now to enjoy the moment was director of rugby Rowland Winter’s reaction on the final whistle as Coventry Rugby completed their title-winning season with victory over Hull Ionians at Butts Park Arena in front of a record crowd for National League One of 3,758.

“Today was a fantastic occasion for the club all round and an opportunity for us to showcase everything good about Coventry Rugby,” said Winter. “To have 3,700-plus people here, a National One record, and to finish the season with a win is fantastic.

“It’s been a long season, the boys have done incredibly well, and I’m really proud of them. They were a few degrees below today and they’ve taken their foot off the gas in the last four or five weeks, but I don’t blame them for that  – they’ve been outstanding all season and they’re a top group of boys.

“It’s time for them to put their feet up, enjoy it and let it all sink in. We begin pre-season in six to seven weeks’ time and then the hard work will start again.

“I’m over the moon. We’ve been building towards this for a couple of years and everything has clicked into place – it’s been a fantastic season.”
