Happy birthday Harry!

CONGRATULATIONS and many happy returns to club legend Harry Walker on his 102nd birthday today.

It is fitting that H’s birthday falls on the day that England are taking on Wales in Cardiff as 70 years ago, give or take a couple of weeks,  Harry was lining up for his international debut at the Arms Park, helping England to a 9-6 victory (a goal and a drop goal to two tries). A report from the day read: “England suffered an early setback when Scott was injured after 15 minutes and Steele-Bodger withdrew from the pack to strengthen the threequarter line. The reduced English forwards played brilliantly, however, and the much-fancied Welsh forwards were never allowed to take a grip on the proceedings.” Harry clearly did his bit for the cause, as always.

England’s oldest surviving international, Harry won nine caps in total and has been a loyal servant of Coventry and Warwickshire in a multitude of ways over the following years.

Have a great day, Harry, and all at Coventry Rugby look forward to seeing you back at Butts Park in the very near future.
