Dry conditions in Cornwall greeted Cov to the ground at Camborne where they had never managed a victory. With a day ideal for running Rugby, the Pirates kicked off with Coventry conceding a very early penalty which fortunately Luke missed after just 90 seconds. A period of error ridden play from both sides then saw Myles Dorrian miss a very kickable penalty inside the home ‘’22’’. A mistake by Nathan Jones then saw the hosts take the lead, a move half the length of the pitch ending with Whatling crossing, the try being unconverted. Worse was then to follow for Cov, Chris Whitehead being yellow carded for interference at a ruck. Cornish Pirates with a man advantage were keen to capitalise, a smart move through the backs ending with winger Tuohy crossing for another unconverted try. pMyles Dorrian then pulled back three points with a penalty for 10-3, only for Cov to undo the good work by conceding a third try through Ireland following some missed tackles. Towards the end of the second quarter Cov did rally with a second Dorrian penalty and what was to prove to be their only try of the game. Quick thinking by Nathan Jones and the alert Chris Whitehead saw ground made for Will Hurrell to cross for his maiden club try, Dorrian missing the kick, but at 15-11 down Cov were still in the game. Coventry did have an opportunity for more points, the penalty chance being missed, but it was the Pirates who dominated the second half scoring with tries from Vakacegu(2) and Winn, one converted by Whatling. Myles Dorrian landed one penalty for Cov, but the sad looks on visiting faces at the end said it all as the squad approached the important Boxing Day game with Moseley. Coventry.
