At the end of this year’s Poppy Appeal, Coventry RFC can reveal that their Remembrance match on 1st November raised over £1000 for the Royal British Legion. The day was a huge success for both the Legion and the Club, winning against Newbury 31- 7.
The Club were thrilled to have the support of Coventry’s Lord Mayor, Andy Matchett, who stated prior to the match, “I would like to express my support for the Royal British Legion and this fantastic community event that Coventry Rugby Club has arranged with them. “Coventry is a City that epitomises the message of peace and reconciliation for all nations and it is great to see this message expressed through sport.
“As Coventry was blitzed on 14th November 1940 this event should attract strong support from the people of Coventry and myself as Lord Mayor and the City Council fully support this event and ask everyone to give what they can to the representatives of the Poppy Appeal”. Both Match Day Sponsors, NP Aerospace and Match Ball sponsors, Fanuc Robotics made a great contribution to the day. The Club greatly appreciate this and the help of, Nick Newbold from HIA International, who won the box auction with a bid of £500, which went to the Royal British Legion.
The Club is hoping to make this an annual event in years to come to help maintain the great work carried out by the Royal British Legion. Sincere thanks from both Coventry RFC and the Royal British Legion goes to all those who were present on the day and gave so generously to such a worthy cause. Ends.
