With some reservations, Coventry can feel reasonably happy with a second consecutive pre season win over a club who finished third in National Division Two last season.

Admittedly the Stourbridge squad had changed somewhat close season, nevertheless another win should have done a lot for morale and confidence.

The match was played over three thirty minute sessions, the first of which was eminently forgettable save for one Cov try, a host of pre season mistakes and a welter of penalties, 16 in all, dished out in the first 29 minutes. The try came from Laurie McGlone in typical fashion from a five metre scrum.

Session two began with steady Coventry pressure, but by the end of it, four tries, three of them coming in a six minute spell effectively put an end to any realistic hopes Stourbridge may have had. Indeed the visitors offered little in terms of attack in the first hour, making only rare entries into the ‘’ Cov 22’’. Chris Whitehead driven over following a scrum against the head, Myles Dorrian supporting a Sam Montague break, Ronnie McLean and Lee Parry following neat work on the right ran in tries, McLean converting three for 31-0.

Stourbridge to their credit applied a little more pressure in the final session, first lock Ben Griffiths being driven over and Tom Hughes slicing through for try number two, the first converted by Jon Higgins. In between Jamie Miller, now operating at number eight powered over for an unconverted home try number six.

So far so good and onwards to Cardiff at the Butts Park Arena on Friday night.
