PRESS RELEASE - England County Call Up PDF Print E-mail
Written by Coventry RFC
Wednesday, 21 May 2008

Chris Whitehead and Nathan Jones have both been selected to play for The England Counties XV. The two Coventry RFC first team players will represent the Country on the three match tour in the USA and Canada from June 2nd to the 16th.

This is a fantastic opportunity for both of the young players and they are more than willing to step up to the occasion of playing for their Country.

Chris Whitehead, who is no stranger to representing his Country and has played for both the U16s and U18s, comments:

“Being picked to play for the England Counties really is such a great honour, it couldn’t be a better end to what has been a tough, yet very enjoyable first year at Coventry. It has been a good year of rugby for me and being able to play regularly has been a great help in my development.

It’s great to be back on the England books and I really hope it’s another step towards my dream. I hope this experience will be a great opportunity to show what I can do on a bigger scale and I am sure it will be a great help in me developing even further.

Nathan Jones, who has represented England for the U19’s and played two World Cups during his time at Leicester, explained why  this was a great accomplishment for him both professionally and on a more personal level.

“Being picked to play has been a real achievement for me as before I signed for Cov I had been out for three years due to a back injury. I never imagined that after only one season back in the professional game I would be in this position of being asked to play for the Country again. It’s great that all the hard work that I have put in over this past year has really paid off and is a great incentive to work even harder next season.

My goal while I’m out there is to gain as much as possible from this fantastic opportunity. It is great chance to help further my reputation in the Rugby world. It’s also my first time across the Atlantic Ocean so looking forward to seeing what America and Canada have to offer.”

Coventry RFC’s Chairman, Andrew Green, expresses the Club’s delight of two of their first team players being chosen:

“We are all very proud at the Club of these players. Despite Chris and Nathan only joining the Club last year, they have both been an absolute credit to the club in their commitment and professionalism throughout the year, both on and off the pitch.

They both deserve this opportunity and I, along with the rest of Coventry RFC, wish them well on their Rugby travels around Canada and the USA. I have no doubt that they will not only make their families very proud, but the Club and people of the City of Coventry as well.”

Ends.
