Coventry duly gained revenge for the narrow defeat suffered earlier in the season, a result which also did no favours towards the Bees fight against relegation. Once again a strong wind was blowing, this time straight down the pitch with the Solihull visitors having first use of it. They could argue that their two point half time lead could and perhaps should have been more, Cov for their part however it could also be argued contributed somewhat to the fact they were behind at the break as a result of committing two many errors and infringements in their own half. The second half was a totally different story. Whilst it took the Blue and Whites fully 20 minutes to edge back in front, the Bees were never a serious threat as an attacking force and a one point it did look as if the final margin might have been even bigger. Perhaps in the final analysis it should have been, Cov wasting at least two opportunities late on to clinch a bonus point. The final try tally of 3-1 was a reasonable reflection, although both sides could have increased their tally. The opening 15 minutes however saw the visitors without hardly any possession yet leading briefly. After just one minute the on loan Grove landed a 40 metre penalty after Danny Hodge had been penalised, Cov however retaliating within three minutes. Myles Dorrian angled a beautifully weighted pass to Donovan Sanders for the centre to stride through before Ronnie McLean was up to claim the try which he converted himself. It became 8-3 when McLean landed a simple penalty awarded for not releasing. Bees lost scrum half Griffiths before Grove was wide from 35 metres. On 21 minutes however Pertemps Bees were back in front. Fly half Grove broke, chipped and caught before receiving a return pass from Young to cross under the posts, Grove converting for 8-10. George Dixon after his long injury lay off replaced the injured Lee Parry before after 35 minutes Dorrian stole Bees possession before being hauled down in the visiting ‘22’’. The visitors again infringed McLean punishing them with an easy penalty into the wind. Once more the lead was short lived ,although quite where the referee managed to find some nine minutes of injury time will remain a mystery. In that lengthy period after Grove had missed another penalty attempt, two close in line outs saw the visiting forwards emphatically repelled before a Young break was held and Darren Clayton harshly yellow carded leaving Grove with an easy penalty. 11-13 to the Bees but with Cov about to enjoy second half wind advantage. The second half saw incessant, almost unbroken activity in the Bees half, although it did take 20 minutes to break them down. On 60 minutes the hard working Laurie McGlone plunged over from 5 metres for his 10th try of the season, McLean’s conversion and a simple Myles Dorrian drop goal three minutes later easing Coventry to 21-13. McLean landed a third penalty after 67 minutes as Bees continued to defend desperately, although there was little they could do as Cov clinched a third try on 77 minutes. A big rolling maul saw Donovan Sanders lend assistance, the centre coming up with the ball, the conversion this time failing. Twice in the closing moments opportunities were there for a bonus point claiming try, both went begging, although the Blue and Whites knew, particularly with Plymouth losing again at home, they had done more than enough to hold on to 7th spot in National Division One.
