Coventry can feel quite justifiably well pleased with their visit to the Old Parish Ground. Welsh Premiership Maesteg were sent packing with a 9 try demolition which can only have worked further wonders for squad morale.

One of the main differences between the two squads which took the field was the level of fitness. Whereas part time Maesteg did in fairness look a pretty ordinary outfit, super fit Cov thanks to all the hard work put in not least by Murray Henderson & Brett Davey were literally on a different planet in that respect, enabling them to play a wide expansive game which the Welsh side were never able to match.

The fixture also gave Cov a pretty physical work out, which at this stage can only have been very useful, but there is no doubt there were some pretty impressive personal performances that can only have aided selection for the more serious challenges ahead.

Leading 12-0 inside the first quarter, Coventry were 22-10 to the good by half time. Tries from the impressive Ben Toft, Myles Dorrian on the end of a length of the field move notably featuring Donovan Sanders & Logan Kirisome, with Ben Russell tagging on 2 conversions & a penalty ensured that cushion, a Thomas try, Griffiths conversion & penalty being the Maesteg reply.

With that superior fitness & increasing organisation really counting, Cov then went on to run in 6 more second tries without reply through Dorrian & Kirisome again, Sanders, Russell, Laurie McGlone & finally Ronnie Mc Lean, Russell adding 4 more conversions.

Feet on the ground as they say, but 60 points & a win out of Wales has to be a real plus at any time.
