Last week Coventry Rugby Football Club travelled down to South West One side Chinnor Rugby Football Club for a joint training and coaching session with their under 21 development side. Coventry had received a request from former player and now coach at the Chinnor RFC Academy, Clive Davies, to help out. Clive played for the club back in the 80s and 90s as a hooker and remembers his days at Coventry with fondness and is still a season ticket holder who tries to get to as many home games as possible.
Leicester loan player Vai Tuilagi proving allusive This was a perfect alternative to break-up training for the squad. The players all thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to sample training at another Club and help put some knowledge back into the community of rugby. The club remains focused on developing all aspects of rugby and relishes the opportunity to pass on its experience and knowledge to other clubs.
Stuart Friswell and Chris Whitehead help out the Chinnor hooker Murray Henderson, Coventry’s head coach, commented: “All the players and team management thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to help out at Chinnor. It was good to meet an ex-Coventry player Clive Davies. I believe we are all very lucky to earn our living from and be involved in a sport we love. If I or any of the team can pass on some experience or knowledge to young players, we are only to happy to oblige. If any further clubs would like our help and time permitting we would love to get involved.”
