COVENTRY Rugby Football Club yesterday attended an employment tribunal in Birmingham. A case was brought against the Club by Darren Grewcock, a former member of staff at the National Division One club. The tribunal chairman dismissed Grewcock’s claim for want of jurisdiction. Grewcock’s employment with the Club was terminated on the grounds of gross misconduct when he using abusive and threatening behaviour against a customer earlier in the season. As a result, he decided to pursue legal action against the Club for unfair dismissal. Andrew Green, Coventry’s chairman, commented: “The tribunal’s decision to summarily dismiss the claim brings to a close this upsetting episode. Coventry Rugby Football Club is a professional organisation in which there is absolutely no place for the behaviour displayed by Mr Grewcock”. “We are fully focused on the coming season and now have a highly professional team of people in place, people who are dedicated to delivering the very highest quality service and contributing to the future success of the Club both on and off the pitch.” Ends.
