PRESS RELEASE - Going Going Gone, Temporary West Stand Removed PDF Print E-mail
Written by Coventry RFC
Thursday, 17 May 2007

Coventry Rugby Football Club has removed the temporary West Stand from Butts Park Arena due to its age and consequent safety reasons.

The stand, which originally came from Worcester RFC over four years ago, was supposed to provide a temporary one-year solution to seating before the next stage of the ground re-development. Unfortunately, the structure no longer meets the rigorous health and safety standards issued by authorities required to gain a safety certificate.

Explains Chairman Andrew Green: “The health and safety of all supporters is of paramount importance to us. It is vital that we fully comply with safety regulations and ensure that we deliver the very highest standards when it comes to looking after the wellbeing of everyone visiting Butts Park Arena.

“The stand was only ever meant to be a temporary solution and over the last few years has become considerably weathered. The wood flooring is now rotten and when the base gets wet it can be slippery.

“The City Council has advised us on the situation - everybody involved worked very hard to keep the stand open last year - but we have no option but to remove the stand. I would like to thank the City Council for their help and advice over the previous season.”

Concludes Green: “We’re currently examining future options for the West side of the stadium and balancing these against the needs of head coach Murray Henderson and the playing squad.”

Ends.
