Phil Maynard has chosen his team to face longstanding rivals, London Welsh at Old Deer Park this Saturday. The Welsh have had their own, well documented financial travails which, at the time of writing are still ongoing. Pre-season they recruited well and despite a 5 point deduction for going into administration in the close season, are now well entrenched in the promotion places, lying 3rd in the table. Players to watch are Errie Claassens, a fast winger with 10 tries so far this season and full back, Aled Thomas who has kicked 127 points. Mention should also be made of former Coventry favourite, Chris Whitehead who is presently on loan at the Exiles from London Wasps. Since the teams last met at BPA in November, London Welsh have gone on to win 6 out of 8 league matches, including the notable scalp of Exeter. Other wins were over Nottingham, Bees, Rotherham, Moseley and Doncaster last week. Somewhat surprisingly, they lost to Plymouth at home as well as Bedford away. London Welsh will be looking to consolidate their top three position, whilst Coventry are in urgent need of a win to provide some impetus and confidence for the forthcoming play-offs.
