After the Club made it through administration, the Rugby Football Union imposed a number of criteria that the Club had to meet, including raising a substantial bond. In a public appeal, lead by the Coventry Telegraph, the people of Coventry were called upon and they rose to the occasion spectacularly.

“I cannot deny that it has been a difficult time but I always had faith in the Club and the people of Coventry City.
“It was a challenge to sustain the company on a very limited budget; it was really a case of balancing finances in such a way that would enable us to stay out of the relegation zone whilst still keep the company afloat. When you look at the fans, sponsors, staff and the community we have behind us, the reason we managed it is evident”.

With the Club now considerably more stable, Green is now investing in its long- term future to ensure the same situation does not arise again. The appointment of the advisory board was an important step, as they have been fundamental to the Club’s development.

“It’s crucial to have a sustainable business plan and for this reason, we’ve recruited the best staff we can afford and with their extensive experience, this is definitely coming together.
“On the playing side, Phil Maynard has pulled together a very promising squad; we have a mix of players with different abilities. We’ve definitely got some big battles ahead of us but I’m confident in the support and commitment we have behind us.
“We have also invested in our training facilities, to ensure the team are as fit as they can be. With a new facility at Woodlands sports complex the players now have a settled regime, from which they will benefit greatly”.

Not only is Coventry entering an entirely new league but they have taken the controversial decision to play their fixtures on Friday nights, which Green hopes will boost the fan base.

“We hope that fans can appreciate that the decision was made in the Club’s best interests.
As anticipated, the response has been mixed and I think it will just be a case of seeing how it goes; we’ve taken the first step and it may well be the way forward for a number of clubs”.

The invaluable support proves what the Coventry Rugby Club means to the city. It has not gone unnoticed and Green believes it is essential to give back what has been put in.

“We have continued to invest in the community, with commercial and playing staff using whatever resources they have to become involved in a number of schemes aimed at benefiting the local area and its people.

“Once again, I want to thank fans and sponsors for your tremendous support and remind you that Coventry Rugby Club is as much yours at it is ours. Without you all behind it, the Club wouldn’t be where it is today”.
