Chairman’s statement regarding unacceptable behaviour.

We have had two recent written complaints regarding unacceptable behaviour from our supporters.

Following the game v Wasps we received a letter complaining that a number of their supporters had received several insults for wearing their club’s colours, some in the ground, some in the VP’s Club. These folk had come to BPA expecting to find a friendly club that they would consider becoming regulars at, since our fixtures do not clash. That will now not happen. Apart from the lost revenue that a few unthinking people have cost us, it is simply ‘not rugby’ and certainly not Cov.

After the Bedford game, as the match officials left the pitch they were subjected to four-letter word abuse, which they have reported to us. Apparently there were two individuals concerned. We have to deal with this firmly: abuse of match officials can lead to league points deductions and fines for the club! Individuals who continue to do this will be identified and banned from the club. Rhys Davies is running refereeing workshops on Thursdays and some of you may wish to attend these.

I understand that we all feel passionate about our club, but we must not cross the line. After a nine year absence we wish to make the strong impression in the Championship that Coventry is a great and welcoming club with a big heart. That is a key message in attracting new sponsors and spectators. We cannot afford to alienate anybody, certainly not RFU officials.

Please always remember that we are all ambassadors of the club especially when wearing the club’s colours.
