DIRECTOR of rugby Rowland Winter hailed ‘a great result’ as Coventry Rugby ended the year in style with a seven-try win at derby rivals Birmingham Moseley.

Cov blew away the opposition in a scintillating first half to lead 36-3 at the break on their way to a 15th straight win which sends them into 2018 with a 13-point lead at the top of National League One.

“I expected a tough battle and to be challenged in every area by a big Moseley side, which was definitely the case for the majority of the game apart from a 20-minute period where the boys were exceptional,” said Winter.

“The defence and clinical finishing off each of Moseley’s mistakes in that period won the game for us.

“Based on how we finished the first half we should have kicked on more in the second half, but Moseley were always going to come out and battle. They were at home, probably red-faced a little, and it was derby day.

“Credit to them for not rolling over and they caused us a few problems in the second half.

“We lacked composure and forced the opportunities that we got in the second half which led to handling errors, so there are definitely things we will look at and, as always, there are areas to tidy up.

“But to achieve another bonus point win over Moseley and score seven tries is a great result. We got the five points we targeted.”

Added Winter: “The support today was outstanding, it felt like a home game!

“It really helped to settle the team and I am glad we got the result as a reward for all those who travelled over.

“We will enjoy the Christmas break, rest up and look forward to playing Old Albanian back at Butts Park in two weeks.”
