By John Wilkinson COVENTRY Rugby is delighted to confirm that lead coach Nick Walshe has committed his future to the club in an extended full-time capacity.
The former England scrum-half, who joined the coaching team last September in a part time role, has signed a two-year deal to continue as attack coach and will also oversee and co-ordinating the development of Coventry Rugby’s specialist coaches and player-coaches.
“Nick has been leading a lot of the coaching since his arrival, his influence has accelerated the team’s development and I am delighted that he will be on board for the next two years in a full time capacity,” said director of rugby, Rowland Winter.
“Nick is an important cog in our team and how we operate. He is a very hands-on coach and he has built up a strong rapport with the players.
“His leadership, knowledge and experience is also vital for the development of the other coaches and player-coaches.”
Meanwhile, Corey Hircock, who has made 18 appearances at centre and wing in his first year at Butts Park, will not be part of next season’s playing squad but will continue his role as the club’s consultant nutritionist.
The 26-year-old is studying for a masters degree at Loughborough University and will concentrate on this as well as developing work opportunities both inside and outside rugby union.
Said Winter: “Corey has paused his playing career for the time being.
“He is developing a promising career in nutrition which requires a lot of his time and is understandably his priority at present.
“Corey’s role and advice behind the scenes as our nutritionist is a great advantage for us, and we are looking forward to supporting the next step in his career over the coming season.”
